Richard Kiplagat

Richard Kiplagat is Chair of the Advocacy Taskforce for the African Hydrogen Partnership and a Director of Africa Practice, a pan-African strategic advisory firm.

As Chair of the African Hydrogen Partnership Advocacy Taskforce, Richard is responsible for leading and coordinating a team of significant green hydrogen industry players to develop and implement the group’s advocacy strategy. Key areas of focus include increasing awareness of the potential of green hydrogen among African policymakers and the private sector and building support for progressive policies and regulations to accelerate investments and support the establishment of common standards.

He is a senior stakeholder relations advisor to business and government leaders and specialises in the infrastructure and energy sectors. Richard advises a portfolio of companies who have collectively invested in excess of US $5 billion in Africa and was co-facilitator in the initial strategy workshops that led to the formulation of the African Union’s Agenda 2063. Throughout his 29 year career, Richard has advocated for progressive approaches to the governance and adoption of new technologies and built broad-based consensus around complex development challenges.

Prior to joining Africa Practice, Richard was Head of Global Strategic Alliances at Microsoft Africa and East African Regional Manager for SAP. He is passionate about unleashing the potential of a more integrated and collaborative continent, and the need for Africa to build its human capital holistically by investing in progressive mindsets, ethics and values.

Richard studied Economics and Political Science at the University of Toronto Canada, with a focus on the economics of development.
