British International Investment

Annual Review 2019

Welcome to British International Investment’s 2019 Annual Review: Towards a decade of action.

At a time when we’re facing a global pandemic that will undoubtedly have an impact on the countries where we invest, our goal, to support the economic stability that will enable countries to leave poverty behind, has never been more important.

As we enter the decade of action to achieve the SDGs, our focus has been on maximising the development impact of our investments to help achieve a better and more sustainable future. The Review sets out our commitment to all the goals, and highlights our work towards four specific goals – climate action, decent work and economic growth, gender equality and partnership for the goals.

The year saw us make £1.66 billion of new commitments to businesses in Africa and South Asia. We’re now invested in over 1,200 businesses which directly employ over 875,000 workers and support many more.
