About this event

British International Investment hosted two events as part of 2024 London Climate Action Week. Both focussed on different aspects of climate adaptation in emerging markets.

Event two: IMPACT= Managing physical climate risks in emerging markets

Emerging markets are disproportionally impacted by climate change, with a high degree of vulnerability to increased climate hazards, and a continually widening financing gap to support adaptation and resilience efforts in developing countries. Increasing both public and private sector adaptation financing for these markets is vital, requiring urgent action. The first step in building adaptation and resilience is understanding, qualifying and quantifying climate-related risks, and subsequently using the risk assessment process to  identify adaptation needs and originating adaptation-aligned finance.

This conversation focussed on enhancing knowledge of adaptation and resilience, as well as assessing and measuring climate risks. It also looked the crucial role of risk assessments in pinpointing necessary adaptations and generating finance that supports adaptation efforts. What does the successful integration of Physical Climate Risk assessment to investments in emerging markets look like, and how can risk identification bring adaptation and resilience opportunities to the fore, leading to improved financial and socio-economic returns across investment contexts?
