We’re very sad to hear of the death of Alastair Hanton, who joined CDC in 1948, the year we were founded. Mr Hanton started his CDC career at our then head office in Dover Street, London, where he worked for two years before being posted to what is now Malawi – the journey there took him six weeks by boat and rail.
Mr Hanton left CDC in 1954 and went on to have a remarkable career, which included introducing direct debit to the UK.
Despite leaving CDC more than 65 years ago, Mr Hanton continued to be an active member of our alumni community and it was always a pleasure to hear him share his stories at our events. He will be hugely missed.
