CDC appoints new Head of Infrastructure Equity team

CDC Group, the UK’s development finance institution, has today announced the appointment of Chris Chijiutomi as the new Head of its Infrastructure Equity team.

Chris has been with CDC since 2017 as an Investment Director and replaces Sameh Shenouda who left CDC in September. He will lead the CDC team making equity investments in infrastructure in CDC’s target regions of Africa and South Asia.

Before joining CDC, Chris worked as an Investment Director for ARM-Harith Infrastructure Investment Ltd in an Equity Infrastructure Fund focused on investments in West Africa, specifically in transportation, energy, and utilities projects.

Infrastructure plays an increasingly important role in CDC’s investment focus and represents almost a quarter of CDC’s US$5.3 billion portfolio. In 2017, 38% of CDC’s investment commitments went to infrastructure projects, either through direct equity; project finance or via infrastructure-focused investment funds.

Recent CDC infrastructure investments include Ayana Renewables, a new independent solar and wind generation company that will develop hundreds of megawatts of power targeting underserved Indian states and neighbouring countries in South Asia; a US$50 million debt investment in Malindi Solar Group to build a 52MW solar power plant in South-East Kenya; and a US$39 million investment in 50MW Tè Power Plant in Guinea.
