International Safeguarding Summit: one year on

A year on from the International Safeguarding Summit hosted by the Department for International Development, we have worked with the Department to chart the progress made in tackling sexual exploitation, abuse and sexual harassment in the aid sector.

The eight groups that signed commitments last year reported back on their own progress, highlighting some encouraging trends as well as challenges that still need to be addressed.

For our part we have taken a number of steps, often working with like-minded organisations to make progress towards meeting our commitments.

As detailed in the report, these include the development of a Safeguarding Good Practice Note, appointing our board member, Dolika Banda, to lead and oversee CDC’s work on safeguarding, and improving the gender balance of our senior management

We have a zero tolerance to sexual exploitation, abuse or harassment within our operations and within our investments. The commitments we made last year focus on our operations and the due diligence and monitoring processes we undertake when making investments in our markets.
