The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has announced a new UK-Indonesia roadmap and our intention to boost climate financing in the country. The Foreign Secretary announced British International Investment’s expansion into the Indo-Pacific region on 25 November 2021, when further information was made available in our strategy document (page 34).
We will begin investing in the Indo-Pacific region as part of our sustainable development objective to help economies reduce emissions, protect the environment and adapt to the changing climate. Our remit will be focussed on the larger economies of Philippines, Indonesia and the Mekong region (Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos), and we will be particularly focussed on the renewables sector.
We will establish a hub office in Singapore, and we expect to invest between £300 million and £500 million in the region between 2022 and 2026.
