Watch the recording of our event with Devex on women’s economic empowerment post-COVID-19

CDC Group and Devex have held the final online event in a three-part series exploring how to build and support resilient economies and societies that can recover from the COVID-19 crisis.

The final event, which took place on Wednesday 15 July, discussed the effects of COVID-19 on women’s economic empowerment and livelihoods, and explored some of the solutions that can help ensure their access to finance, job opportunities, and career growth.

Moderated by Adva Saldinger, Associate Editor at Devex, we were delighted to be joined by an expert panel including Mary Ellen Iskenderian, Present and CEO of Women’s World Banking; Anu Madgavkar, Partner at McKinsey Global Institute; Arpita Raksit, CDC’s Gender Lead; and Mamoun Tahri Joutei, Head of Economic Intelligence Centre at BMCE Bank of Africa.

The current COVID-19 pandemic is not only a global health crisis, but a social and economic crisis that has disproportionately affected women by exacerbating already existing and intersecting forms of inequality. The negative economic impact of lockdowns and the decreased demand for goods and services often produced or provided by women are posing a real threat to women’s employment, livelihoods, and economic empowerment.
