Ashley Dunster

External Investment Committee member

Ashley joined British International Investment’s Investment Committee as an external member in 2022, and focusses on direct equity transactions.

He worked with Capital Group Private Markets (CGPM) retiring at the end of 2018 after 21 years. CGPM is the private equity division of Capital Group, a US-based global asset manager with approximately US $2 trillion AUM. Since being established in 1992 CGPM fully invested 6 global emerging markets private equity funds in over 100 companies with approximately US $6.5 billion of equity commitments. He was co-Chief Investment Officer of CGPM during the investment period of CIPEF VI ($3 billion). For the prior funds, CIPEF I-V, Ashley was Managing Partner for EMEA and completed numerous equity investments with related Board positions in the consumer goods, healthcare, telecoms and industrial sectors.

Prior to CGPM he worked with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) from 1993 to 1997 with a focus on early-stage equity funds and the nascent private sector in Russia and Central Europe. Earlier in his career he worked for the global management consultancy The LEK Partnership.

Ashley is the Investment Committee Chairman at Uhuru Growth Fund, a West African private equity business.

He holds a degree in engineering studies from Melbourne University and a Masters in Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis from Oxford University.
